The name has crossed paths with many a different design in the past decade. Most notably, it was paired with Raf Simons for one of the designer’s most recognizable footwear collaboration to date. Today, the model isn’t quite as prolific, but it seems the brand is attempting to reignite interest this year. Upgraded and given an additional “Pure” moniker, the silhouette’s latest release is something of an old trend retreaded.
Made to look near futuristic, the upper has been removed of its usual materials and replaced with a layer that’s partially see-through. This synthetic is shaded in either a black or cream shade, while the more opaque fixtures at the heel and tongue support in black suede and leather, respectively. Alongside, the pair mixes in some bold color: the lighter option infuses both Bright Cyan and Solar Red, while the darker set dresses with just the former.
Earlier in December, adidas debuted the Ozweego Celox, a new take on the heritage model that proffers a futurism more subdued than many of the interpretations prior. The silhouette now, following its OG-inspired “Neon” colorway, is dressing up in a few tonal renditions, this pair here adopting a greyscale palette. Though its panels of synthetic and mesh are hued similarly, the separation is still overtly noticeable thanks in part to the color blocking.
Along the ventilated areas — which sit atop the forefoot as well as direct profile — shades of white visually outline, their shapes placed between the greyed underlayer and the slightly cream-tinted exterior. Laces prefer to complement the more achromatic of the aforementioned three, while the adjacent suede fixtures and tooling contrast in flat greys and a more colorful “Hello Blue,” respectively.
The fittingly futuristic model sees its uppers tinted in Collegiate Navy with matching suede overlays. A teal translucent nylon tube wraps around the ankle and lace closure, mimicking the LED wiring associated with gaming PC and other video game consoles. To further embrace the gaming aesthetic, TPU elements on the heel and toe feature stripes of varying shades of blue that allude to the scanlines displayed on video game screens. A white Adiprene cushioned sole unit finishes the Ozweego for ultimate comfort.
